DIRECT FILE TRANSFER PERFORMANCE
P2P upload and download speeds without a cloud detour
Direct transfers can use the local network between connected devices. Performance then depends on the network, LAN or Wi-Fi connection and the read and write speed of both computers—not on an external cloud upload.
Current supported transfer limits
These are the current technical transfer limits. For direct ProBox P2P, the program automatically divides larger files into transfer units of no more than 5 GB each.

How do Desktop Boxes work?
Desktop Boxes are interactive visual containers that live on your desktop. You can drag files into them, organize them by project and share them with others.
How does P2P transfer work?
When you invite someone, Glass Desktop Box establishes a direct connection between both computers. Files travel peer-to-peer without passing through a central server.
Do I need cloud storage?
No. Files are transferred directly between devices. A relay is only used when a direct connection cannot be established — files are never stored permanently.
Can I share files without uploading?
Yes. Glass Desktop Box sends files directly from your Desktop Box to the recipient's Box. No upload, no link, no waiting.
What is a ProBox?
A ProBox is a live shared Desktop Box that appears on both computers simultaneously. Changes, files and notes are synchronized in real time.

How fast are P2P uploads and downloads with Glass Desktop Box?
On a direct LAN connection, performance is determined by the slowest network and storage component. A realistic 1 Gbit LAN payload rate is about 90–110 MB/s, so a supported 5 GB ProBox file needs roughly 47–57 seconds for pure transfer. Verification, safety copies and receipt confirmation may add time.
